How do I keep my 430EX II from going to sleep? I have a 2 flash setup, one on a sync cable the other on an optical trigger. The one on the trigger goes to sleep on me and the only way to turn it on is lower the umbrella and hit a button.

Are there any power saving options you can adjust? Maybe if it's on-camera, it's inheriting some power options from there...

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

If I recall correctly, there is a Custom Function in the menus of the 580EX and 580EX II that can be selected to keep them from shutting down. The 430EX II would, it seems, have similar.

Yeap, thanks for the help. I finally found it, it is a Custom Function. Go to C Fn1 and change from 0 to 1.

Thanks again

I am glad it was easy to find! I was on Syl Arena's site earlier this morning, looking at older articles, and saw how he recommended setting Speedlites this way. Of course, this allows the batteries to drain if the user forgets to switch the flashgun off at the conclusion of the shoot, but I usually have spare batteries with me, and charge my batteries almost daily.

As soon as I get out of Afghanistan I'm getting a good big set of Eneloops instead of going through batteries like I am right now.
