Hi Yanacek,

Great catch except the link to http://www.canon-europe.com/2008promotions doesn't contain the promotion you describe. And what's this "PS. Available from 1st March 2008" about? Doesn't the promotion run from "24th-27th February 2008" as your subject line says? If the promotion runs from March 1st then that would seem to confirm the rumour I posted in the thread New Canon Cashback Promotion in Europe?.

Nice to get some UK rebate values, though, which seem broadly in line with the Euro values. 8)

Bob.

P.S. If the promotion runs from March 1st maybe you should remove that misleading reference to Feb 24th in the body and subject line of your post. Even better, you could add your post to the thread I referenced above so that everything is together and I can delete this thread altogether.

hi bob!
yeah i noticed that too (re: website)
the brochure i got says 'Buy between 24th February 2008 and 27th February 2008 in order to receive Cashback from Canon'
I presume the webpage wont get updated till March 1 which would explain the little tiny print stating Available from 1st March 2008.

Hi Yanacek,

Thanks for the clarification. Members must decide for themselves, of course, but personally I would be very loathe to risk buying between the 24th and 27th of February" (what happened to the 28th and 29th?) unless I had a piece of paper in my hand promising that such a purchase would qualify for the main promotion.

Did you get a chance to play with any new kit? The 450D and/or the 200mm f/2 (fantasy land) maybe? 8)

Bob.

I think I overheard a rep saying it's only between 24-27th Feb because that's when the Focus On Imaging show is on for. I have the leaflet if anyone is interested though i can't scan it and they were handing them out to everyone so I can vouch that it's genuine.. though i'm not completely sure why Canon hasn't updated the website for it.

yes! the 450d was on show with different type of lenses attached to it. very very nice camera indeed... but as i mentioned in another thread the canon reps either were acting stupid or didn't know anything. when asked when it was due, after long hesitations... two said april one said mid-april.... now meanwhile the canon uk site says march! haha

It sounds as though this mini-rebate only applies to those who attend the show. As for the 450D ship date, I saw your thread and unless you have a real need then it is probably best to wait until May at least before buying a 450D/XSi, as prices will not be very heavily discounted due to restricted supply and high demand. I saw this when I bought my 40D last year but I had two separate time constraints pushing me to an early purchase so I ended up paying a premium which I will try very hard to avoid next time around.

Excellent! That confirms the cashback scheme. Mind you, one of our UK affiliate stores (Amazon UK) is already offering the 400D body for £348.95 including delivery so knock the £45 of that and you are down to £300 plus small change. Add in the EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM (£324 elsewhere less the rumoured €50 cashback) and you're set to go unless you wait for the 450D price to stabilise!

Bob.

hi bob! no worries!
the cashback prices you got from park cameras are the same ones on the brochure!
now... is it just a plain mean trick by canon to force people to buy during the 3 day period of the show when in fact you could get it beyond the 3 days?
mean canon mean! but at least it hopefully means people are less pressured and make them think before they buy :-)

Thanks for that and for alerting us to the Park Cameras leak. No, I don't think Canon is mean at all when you consider that these rebates are on the lowest prices you can find from reputable Internet dealers. Thank you Canon (touches forelock  ).

Bob.
