I visited the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa again last weekend as I had visitors with me. From the ground the visibility looked good, but 8-10km visibility when you're 600m up doesn't make for good sweeping panoramas!

To give you an idea of the visilibity (and height), here's my brother-in-law shooting the view over the Dubai Fountain and Address Downtown Hotel

Image

As you can see, the desert equivalent of a snowy whiteout

The only thing to do was stop down a little, hope the 35mm Distagon captured the microcontrast its good for, convert to black and white and boost the contrast and saturation a little. Hey presto, Toytown!

Thanks maxjj - unfortunately this is standard visibility and flat light, espsecially in the summer. Going on holiday to different areas of the world make you think you've had a cataract operation!

Excellent shots! The 3rd B&W one with all of the roads is beautiful, very nice contrast.

I'd love to travel to Dubai some day, and to travel the UAE. What an experience it must be to live there! :)

Thanks EvanK.

After living here for 6 years I can't see much of the appeal of visiting, myself! You get accustomed to your surroundings and take things for granted, I suppose.

I really feel for the families staying in hotels and getting hit with the extortionate rates for food and beverage. Like all cities, once you know where to go you avoid these places and go to the few places that offer good value for money and service.

Maybe I'm spoilt though, but 1 week into Ramadan things start to get to you!
