Camera Labs

The Weather Channel, as in the website and iPhone application, is uncannily accurate. It forecast rain starting at 20:00 with a good chance of thunder and lightning.

I was pretty excited when I saw the first flashes of lightning at 19:55!

I drove into old town Dubai (near the Burj Khalifa) to try to get a good viewpoint and composition. Found it, watching the storms come in.

And then it hit, and hit hard. Monsoon rains and no visibility at all, so I had to find another spot with cover and the chance to bag a lightning strike.

I managed to get 5 strikes in the end, and here's the first one that's been processed. I'm returning today to find a place near the original location with cover so I'm ready for later in the week!

I was gutted as I had a great location but got drenched and flooded out so had to move. The area is was in is one large construction site so location 2 had lots of buildings under construction - I may try to process the shots, we'll see. It might make an interesting foreground!

Cool shot. Well worth the effort. Just looking at the exif data, 8second exposure. Thought it would be quicker.

I usually check new post when I log on, this is the first time this has come up for me.

Quite a simple shot really. I just set up on a tripod and fired away at around 6 seconds per exposure. There were plenty of stikes hitting and during one exposure I got this strike.

The original location would have been better with a skyline but I got washed out by a hailstorm
