Have tried some panoramic stitching of shots using Canon G12.

It looks as if you'll only get a good flat horizon if your camera is pointed directly at the horizon - i.e. no upwards or downwards elevation.

Otherwise you'll get the wavy horizon you see in shot 1

I agree. I was shooting from a low position on shot 1. Thanks for your comment.
