I spent some extra time on this one and I'm sort of wondering if the extra effort was apparent in the results. I did a few things different than I usually do. This was a handheld burst of -1, 0, and +1. Blended using Photomatix with more mild settings than I usually do. After this I bought it into photoshop and put the aforementioned layers below it, and then masked out blown out portions. Then some desaturation and vignetting to add sort of a historical look to the photo. Please be very critical.

I like it, have to try hdr one day. Looks historical to me, what this pic needs is a Big Bad Pirate ship with canons right in the middle of the water.
