Hi everyone,

I'm soon going to America and Canada on holiday and of course taking my camera. I've been wanting for a while to get a nice Circular polarizer but wasnt sure which size to get as i have 2 lenses i use. So i found out about step up and down rings. I figured it's better to step up than down, right? Also is it worthwhile or are they a waste of time? it's kind of expensive to buy two cps and i'm not sure how much i'd use it on either lens either. I have a 70-300mm vr and 10-20 sigma. What do you guys think? should i bother? or should i just get one for one lens? which do you think would give the greatest results and be used more?

I think step up is better than step down due to vignetting (prevention thereof). But bigger filters cost more than smaller ones... if the difference is not too great, then get the filter in the bigger size, and adapter for the other lens. I've done this myself, I have 52, 55 and 62mm filter size lenses. And I'm standardising on 62mm filters, with cheap adapter rings on the others.

Handy hint, if you plan on keeping the step up ring on the lens to save time, then get a matching size lens cap as the original wont fit any more.

Definitely the step up. Get a step-up or step-down if you have many lenses but only need to use one kind of filter at any one point of time.

Thanks guys, i thought step up would be better to stop the vignetting. At the moment i'm only planing on a cpl i might get others in the future. Thanks again for the advice.
