Post subject: Confused over P Mode
PostPosted: Fri Jun 13, 2008 8:02 pm
Am i right in thinking that P mode lets the user set the flash, ISO and white balance and the camera automatically ajusts the rest?

If so, When im in P mode i am able to change the shutter speed (when I do the camera shows "Ps") and then the aperture is adjusted automatically to get the best exposure. I dont seem to be able to change the aperture.

Im confused about this as this seems to do the same function as the "s" mode, lets the user set the shutter speed and aperture is set automatically.

I have a Sony A100

From my blog, this article about the mode dial

Program Mode (P)

Some digital cameras have this priority mode in addition to auto mode (in a few cameras Program mode IS full Auto mode… confusing isn’t it!). In those cameras that have both, Program mode is similar to Auto but gives you a little more control over some other features including flash, white balance, ISO etc. Check your digital camera’s manual for how the Program mode differs from Automatic in your particular model.

In program mode you can adjust the combination of shutter speed and aperture - but the camera keeps the exposure correct. So you can change both of them together, but not individually.
