Has anyone got any advice on light painting?

i found this picture

on google images, the concept of it seems really cool and i wondered how the glass actually shows up in the picture, i thought you would only be able to see the light trails and not the actual glass?

also with this picture how does the man show so clear

am i missing something? or have the pictures just been edited somehow? can anyone help please?

When you're taking a shot with flash you are controlling two exposures at the same time - ambient and flash

The flash is lighting the glass in shot 1 and the man in shot 2

A slow shutter speed looks after the ambient, which is where the light painting comes in.

I've done a lot of light painting.

You need to set your Camera into manual mode (M) and have a have a Aperture of say f11-16, depending on how much light you stil have around you. Shoot in RAW and use spot metering. Has worked for me best.

Shutter speed to bulb or a remote control. If you don't have any of those you can still maybe fit in a light paint within 30s. This is something i've done recently:

in this case would u spot meter for the sky??

I'm 80% sure i used spot metering at the time. Mostly looks best at night. Aswell edited a bit in Lightroom.
