 Post subject: what's the different
PostPosted: Mon Oct 11, 2010 4:45 pm
Hi all,

Today i went to a Canon shop to get the 70-200mm f2.8, while i was there i saw the same lence but f1.4...the thing is the f2.8 was more expensive than the f1.4 as far as I know the less the f number the better the lence so if u have any idea about this please let me know.

Thanks

Um - no offense but if I knew as little about lenses as the original writer, I wouldn't be dropping $2000 on a lens...!

To be franc I didn’t pay much attention to the lens in physical I was talking to the shopkeeper and he showed me the price list because it was not in the shop so I was surprised my self to know that there is f1.4 so I returned home and searched the net. Finally I learned the hard way that the guys at the shop are with no knowledge more than my self.

Camera store clerks are -often- not to be trusted. That being said, I have found a few stores that do have very good employees, often photographers themselves.

Probably the f/4 version. The lenses are marked 1:4 and 1:2.8 to indicate the focal ratio.

camera store clerks are usually incompetents...why? because nobody asks them to know a lot of gear,if it's not a big company/store

I'd still like to stress that there are competent shops. I could name some in the Netherlands, but that would not be relevant to most of you.
I might name Adorama here though, our forum member HelenOster is a representative.

 a 70-200 f1.4. Where can I get my hands on one?

The camera shop guys over here are quite knowledgeable but always check online at the manufacturers website and of course Cameralabs before you buy.

Razvan, I cant see Nikon or Canon redesigning their current crop of 24-70 2.8 for the extra 30mm when both have impeccable 70-200's. As for the IS/VR, I thought canon would have brought it out with this latest batch of releases but obviously we have to wait a little longer
