Hi all,

I brought my camera (Nikon D40) for traveling in Sicily. The beach there was great. The sea is blue green in color and so clear that you can see the bottom of the sea.

I tried to take a picture, but what I got on the picture was a sea dark blue in color, with reflection of the sun (a lot of light flare from the surface of the sea) from the pictures, you wouldnt be able to tell if the sea is clear and can you see it thru or not. (I stood on the rock and took picture of the sea from the top; I also tried to go into the sea, until the water was knee-high, to take the pictures)

I would like to ask how should I take the picture to eliminate the reflection from the surface of the sea but keep the light from the bottom of the sea. I would guess a filter is needed, if so, what kinda filter will be the best?

Get a multicoated circular polarizer (CPL). Hoya's are pretty good. Keep in mind the filter needs to be rotated to get the desired effect and if your lens' front element rotates during autofocus, it might get annoying
