I'm NEWWW!
i've recently bought a new DSLR, my first Nikon D3000.
I'm loving it (:
but... I've tried macro shots and it doesnt work...

Manual focus doesn't focus on the subject that i want it to be focused on
Auto focus cannot find the place where i want to focus and refuses to take the photo

i was trying to get a photo of a water droplet on a wire this morning and it was a fiasco.
any one know anything about why i can't go real close?

It sounds like you're trying to focus closer than the minimum focus distance of your lens.

Yep. Every lens has it's limits. for real macro, you need a macro lens (which does 1:1)

Save ur pennies and buy a 60mm f2.8 ED Macro lens.
