I read that lots of people use Aperture priority mode all the time. I am having a problem with it though (I am using a canon 7d w/24-70 2.8 lens and 580ex II flash). Everytime I use this mode even with the flash it gives me like a 1 sec shutter, unless I am outside in the bright sun. When I use program mode it will not go lower then 1/60 which works out great especially when I am using a flash. I have been using manual since I got my first camera but all these pros are swearing by AV mode and I just don't get it. thanks for any help.

That's a deliberate feature Canon do as standard. The idea is the flash will fill the subject, but the long exposure will also get you the background exposed. If you don't want this mode, there is an option somewhere in the custom menu system that lets you limit it to 1/60-1/250.

On Av mode in general, I find it useful but then again I rarely use flash...

Hi,
I found a great site a few weeks ago, talking about Canon flash photography. It explains all the terms and behavior of Canon cameras with flash.
Read and understand everything (more or less):
