Hi everyone! Welcome to November's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Night shots using long exposures (5 second minimum)", as suggested by sonnyboy and Jagadish_C who won the September 2010 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules.

The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it MUST be taken during November 2010. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 1024 pixels* on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. Keep it clean and family-friendly or it'll be removed. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Down on the fish quay a fork lift with spinning yellow beacon and headlights loads big plastic bins onto a flat bed truck. I fired a manual flash part way through the manouvre to try and 'grab' an outline of the fork lift but it only partially succeeded ... it was raining at the time and I didn't hang about!



Pentax K20D on tripod, 18-55mm DAII lens, 6 seconds @f.5.6 ISO 100, manual flash.
PP: Pulled colour balance away from the prevailing strong sodium yellow. Crop, downsize.

Post processing: Tweaked the contrast, that's it.

I first shined a flashlight on my subject (Paige, my roommate), then in the dark, shined a red and blue light toward the camera to make the effects. Since a light wasn't directed at me, I didn't show up in the picture. I want to try this in a totally dark room... the window and street lamps were a bit of a bleed.

15 sec exposure in a dark room gave me time to write CL with the light on my cell phone. I paused in the ends and corner of the L to get the star effect

Post Processing: LightRoom - put up the blacks and contrast a bit, darkened background.

First I built this ice cube tower, than lit a match and while shooting 6 secs in complete darkness, moved the match up and down behind the tower. And here it is, my fiery ice.
