1ST AUGUST - SUBMISSIONS CLOSED - VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE!!



Hi everyone! Welcome to July's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Village / Small town life", as suggested by caesartg who won the May 2010 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules.

In caesartg's own words:

"The theme for July is 'Village / Small town Life'. Any kind of photography is fine. The definition of village or small town here is a community with a small population. [If you have any questions regarding the size, please ask in the comments and questions thread - Gordon]

As usual the main rules apply, but if you want to submit a series of strongly linked photos depicting a narrative/slice-of-life/'haiku moment' of some kind (E.g. See the October 2009 assignment), then obviously you can have more than one photo in your submission post.

Please add the usual details under the photo plus detail any post-processing. Further details and description would be great (E.g. Location, time of day, how you came to take the photo, preparation, technique, accidental aspects that had a bearing - anything that you think is relevant is probably interesting to folk here).

I'm looking forward to seeing these - grew up in a village but now live in Taiwan's highly vertical metropolis. Oh, for mossy slated rooftops, the far-off bleat of a sheepie and the wafting scent of freshly-spread cow poo!"



The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it has to be taken during July 2010. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 500 pixels on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

A bleak day for a village gathering.

Today 3rd July in the far north west of Britain on the west coast of Scotland, the tiny and remote villages of Achiltibuie and Polbain held their annual 'Coigach Gathering' on the only piece of suitable land, a raised beach between the two villages (far left in the Panoramio photo).

A group of teenage friends and rivals shelter in a sheep-fold to chat before taking part in the accordion competition. Young people in this region really value traditional music and consider it ‘cool’ to be a skilled musician or dancer.

Private Island

Taken in the keys, There was a private island just off the coast of where my cousin lives. The dock was accompanied by a rather LARGE boat about 4 hours before this shot was taken.

I was passing through this small coastal village in the North East of England called Saltburn, and couldnt help but notice the water was set up in the most perfect position for some reflection snaps. I love this one and hope its also a nice competition entry!

Hi this picture is taken in Lefkada Island, a small town called Spartochori. Very peaceful, quiet with kids and elderly around the town. Streets are narrow and build according to the earth contour. This particular scene is classic hence the pic.
