Congratulations to the (fire)cracking entry by caesartg which is our runaway winner this month with no fewer than 44% of the votes! A clear winner by one of the biggest margins yet, and a great photo. In second place is AL with 8% and in joint third place with each earning 5% of the votes we have mikeroch, thestig2010, NJSantiago, ScubaScooby, Jiko and fallenembers08. Congratulations to all who entered!

As always this means the winner, caesartg, has until the end of this month to set the theme for July's assignment. Please let us know as soon as possible in the May 2010 Q&A thread - thanks!

Polls close Midnight 21st June 2010, at which time we'll declare the winner!

Hi everyone! Welcome to May's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Noise", as suggested by Plymer who won the March 2010 competition. Be sure to read the whole post for the rules. Remember, all photos must have been taken during May 2010 and only post images which are no more than 500 pixels on their biggest side.

In Plymer's own words:

"The topic for this month's Assignment should be "Noise" - a challenge to depict sound through photography.

The limitations are simple: No descriptive text posted with or on the photo. The photo should tell the story without words being needed. EXIF is good to post of course.

Post-processing is allowed, multi-image compositions are allowed (diptychs, triptychs, etc), as long as it helps communicate the idea of Noise."

The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it has to be taken during May 2010. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 500 pixels on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. See the Forum Rules for guides.

We're all enthusiasts here, so please also include the following:

Camera Model:
Lens and focal length:
Shutter Speed:
Post processing:

Submissions will close at midnight GMT on 31st May 2010. The final poll will follow.

Please remember this thread is for submissions only. If you'd like to comment on any of the submissions or ask any questions, please do so in the May 2010 Comments and Questions thread!

Thanks and good luck!

Strewth Plymer you really know how to make us folks suffer!
Living 150 Km from the nearest city in perhaps one of the least noisy places in the UK, ‘noise’ was always going to be something of a challenge … so I’ve been forced to manufacture an image that attempts to demonstrate sound being turned into motion .... and here it is entitled
