After investing in a D90 last month, I'll be taking an amateur dip into this competition. No idea what to photograph yet though. Images of flames and hostile weather conditions come to mind, both of which are a rarity in an Australian winter.

Hmm.

Some ideas to help:

emotions, sport, food, weather/elements (cold, dry, wet, hot), work, surviving, land/sea, environment, severe/serious, highest degrees.

add your ideas, kick start the thought:

I'd say so - I think it's a great photo!

Excuse the question, but I don't get how the last few pictures in the submission folder are related to extremes...?

Hi Mike, I love your take on extremes, absolutely brilliant to my mind well thought out.

Just submitted mine. There aren't a lot of entries just yet, maybe because it's quite a challenging theme once again. With tough competition as well!

May the best win!

Ah, yes, Salvadore Dali, artistic genius that he was probably is feeling rather self satisfied that he started a trend.

Thanks Defiance and hi there Lensbaby. I've never claimed to be an arty type but I was so lacking in ideas and growing increasingly desperate this month that I decided to 'manufacture' an image; it was only when it was done that I realised that there was a hint of Dali in it... so why not milk it for all it's worth! I'm not expecting votes but I've learned a heck of a lot about previously undiscovered bits of P.Shop along the way ... so not a wasted exercise.

Good luck to everyone this month ... it's a beast of a task.

I hope people don't scoff at my entry for what it is, but I trust they will agree with me

Tried my hand at the competition. First time submitting so I'm hoping for a good result. Lots of great photos taken so it will be tough.

Hi All

I have checked this link http://flickr.com/photos/24648553@N04/ and found quite exciting..

Among the best i have loved the pic with red rose in hands... i am amazed with that techinque of black and white hand with color rose in front.. how can we achieve such photos???? is this something that we have to do with softwares like photoshop or can we do it through camera itself???

I am amateur in photography .. so kindly tolerate my stupid questions...

Cheeers

Mano, it is done in photoshop or paint shop pro by duplicating your layer, changing this layer to black and white, then adding a mask layer and erasing the black and white from the rose. I will go to you tube and see if I can find a tutorial for you for this particular technique.
