Though it's not always easy, the evening is certainly my favorite time of day to be out taking street pictures. The sun during the day often gets too bright. Overcast skies aren't usually that interesting. Only when the sky goes dark blue and street lights turn on, can you play with light and explore its potential.

Looking to my left, towards the wall where I hung up some prints), some of my favorite pictures were taken in the evening. This might just be one of those. Titled "Evening shopping", it was all about those two female silhouettes and their shopping bags they held. Street light ads a touch of romance to this wonderful part of Berlin.

Maclean Bridge over the south arm of the Clarence River. The lifting span has not been used for years

Harwood Bridge over the Clarence River. This is a vertical lift bridge and is now rarely used to let shipping past.

Playtime is over over, time to pay and leave! What an unfortunate defect at this venue.

From Yesterday.

Temp was around 35C on land and a perfect 28-29 on the Clarence River cruise. The beer was cold and the band had the crowd moving and singing. There was too much smoke in the air from inland fires to get any decent landscapes, guess you would call these snaps.

Others found other ways to relax.

35 degrees... Take that and subtract 70 and you get what the past few days here have been. And the fact that our furnace died when it was -40 a few days ago didn't help, it's not fun wearing coats and sweaters around the house.

Great shots! Makes me miss the warm weather that you can get in some places all year round, lucky you

To warm you up evan. 4xxxx obviously doesn't need it - it's the last thing they need out there. But this is good to look at when the snow is outside. Our temperature tonight is only going to be a wimpy -4 to -9 apparently.

Wish I could enjoy a fireplace like that, looks very comfortable.

It's in Berlin, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe to be precise. Very profound, memorable experience, and obviously not the happiest place for any adult to visit while on vacation (though kids seem to enjoy it). It is certainly a must see though, both outside and inside (under ground).

Liked that pic Bjorn.

My fire will be lit again any minute. Tonight's temperatures are forecast to be in minus double figures. Still a long way short of what our Canadian friends have to endure. Cold enough for me though.
