Wow - they look like they were shot some days ago but actually those photos are about 70 years old!

http://podakuni.livejournal.com/682830.html

Impressive! I'd love to read some EXIF data  I wish I knew what camera and what film were used and I'd have loved to meet the photographer. Really great results!

Amazing photos, thanks for sharing Jiko! I'm impressed with the quality, and I can't quite get the fact that they're from the 1940s, it's just amazing :)
By the way, I recall seeing shot #52 in a WWII book, it was one of the little high quality shots

Thanks for the link Jilco, amazing quality from such an era, what makes them more interesting is the time they were taken.

Cheers

Absolutely amazing! Can't believe how clean they are.

Does anyone know what kind of film was used? Some low ASA medium format or larger, although the depth of field suggests something smaller?

It's nice the name of the photographers were named. Alfred Palmer for example: http://www.alfredtpalmer.com/history/
There his camera is called Graflex and I looked for it and found: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graflex

Just looked at the camera, and it looks really interesting..... I imagine what would it be like to hold on in my hands, or even better, to get to use one :D

That is funny, most of those are Pie Town New Mexico, my father-in-law just moved out there and gave us 20-acres. I think some of those may have been touched up through photoshop or something. I've seen some of them like on a Pie Town website and they don't look anywhere as good. I'll see if I can find them and post a link

Perhaps, but I really don't think they're too retouched, although I'll agree that they do look retouched.

Thanks for the link Jiko! ;)

Not very surprising to see he used a Graflex manufactured camera, and as far as I can tell from other sites most of the images are 4x5 large format film.

These are probably just VERY well kept, and rescanned properly. So if they said that these haven't been touched up I would not be surprised, 4x5 has truly insane resolution and put that together with a flash noise is reduced dramatically as well.

Btw, its from a Graflex flash gun that the first lightsaber in Star Wars got its hilt. ^^

Interesting fact, I didn't know that :P
By the way, I really don't think they aren't retouched, even if it's just a tiny little bit
