OK, first off a disclaimer. I'm not a professional photographer, just a lazy hobbyist.

I had a friend who asked me to photograph his Nissan car project, and he' s going to have a young woman pose over it and stuff. Whatever. I'm willing to help him capture whatever it is he wants, but everytime he introduces me to new people, he plays me up as some professional photographer, which really makes me feel uncomfortable since I'm NOT, lol. I'm OK and all, but god it is awkward, lol.

Anyone else run into this weird phenomenon where if you have a shiny camera people just assume you're Ansel Adams or something? It's really weird to me.

I bet ya jumped at the chance when he mentioned his car project! (nowt to do with the `young woman pose over it and stuff`  )

I often get comments like "Oh are you a photographer?" To which I reply, "well, I take pictures"

Got to say i'm quite self conscious when walking around carrying my camera, so not sure i'd like it if I was in your shoes & someone said that.

Good luck though, i'm sure you'll do great. 8)

Yep it happens. I like taking landscape shots and people suddenly start asking me to take photos of their wedding.

I have even had people email me their holiday photos and ask me if i can do anything with them.

I just tell them they need a proper photographer and i am just a hobbyist.

I live in a tourist destination so I'm just another tourist with a camera.

Cheers

If it makes you feel awkward just try and turn it into a joke. "Yes I'm a real pro, I have read the manual and can actually turn the camera on without help" :)

It is kind of strange thing, but once you get used to it, it gets away. I also shoot with 70-200 which looks like i am some photo journalist (and i often don't pay any tickets) , but i only shoot for some websites which makes no money from that.

But be glad that you have opportunity like that, most people would be.
