Hi there,
Owning two Sigma 35-70 f/2.8-4 lenses used with an adapter, I experienced that this is (for me) the ideal portrait lens as it covers just all the mms I would need (crop body). While the Sigmas are sharp and the adapter not, am I not going to buy a very expensive adapter to get the sharper shots (even though portraits dont need the excelent sharpness always).
So, do you know any good 35-70 (35-80, whatever) lens with a good aperture for this purpose? From M42 to ancient Nikkors, let your mind go!

Oh, Im not really looking for such a lens right now. Maybe in the future, I just wanted to share the idea of those ''just nothing'' 35-70 lenses.

How about the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L or have I misunderstood your question?

Well according to some urban legend the Olympus OM Zuiko 35-80mm f2.8 is among the best in that focal length area, and it is still bloody expensive too!!

You havent fully understood the question, but I might add that I meant the (older) cheaper/kit-a-like lenses. And I dont know the price of the Zuiko, but as a 4/3 lens it wont be compatible with any other APS-C lens mount when used with an adapter, that's a pity.
