Post subject: Your best shots of 2011
PostPosted: Sat Dec 31, 2011 4:19 am
New Years Eve seems a sensible time to start this topic.

I've just been looking through the 2010 thread and noticed that many folks couldnt pick just one and I was thinking "hey, we're photographers and we like images, lets have more than one"

So I suggest you post your what you consider to be best/favourite 3 images of 2011.

Normal guidelines apply and could you also include basic exif data and a bit about why you've chosen each shot. I love reading the back grounds to images.

I'm off to go and try and pick my three now

This has been really difficult to choose. I've only had my DSLR since April 2011 and I've been on a huge learning curve with it. December alone has seen several images that I could have picked to go into this list. Well 3 had to be picked and here they are

Image

Model: Canon EOS 550D
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/250 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 135mm

Taken on a Gulf Photo Plus organised photowalk this is of a wrestler in Dubai. More info on my blog HERE

Model: Canon EOS 550D
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/1000 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 300mm

Taken on my first (of many) surf trip to Oman this year. As well as photography surfing has been the other big learning curve for me this year. This one was published in Outdoor UAE along with some other shots from the trip. To see an online copy of the mag including the article click HERE

Model: Canon EOS 550D
ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/3200 sec
Aperture: 1.4
Focal Length: 30mm

This is one my favourites from my Decemberfest collection. It shows a lot of what is great about UAE mountain biking, the blue skies, the harsh environment and the single track snaking into the distance. I'm loving the 30mm lens I've been using and its shallow DOF.

Its a great image Phil.

I must go and revisit the fish market with my 30mm f1.4 lens and 50mm f1.8 lenses. Last time I visited I really struggled with the 18 to 135 kit lens because of the light. I'm also 6 months further down the line with my photography and it would be interesting to see if I 'see' things a bit differently now

Textile Souq and Fish Market are well worth a trip

Here are a few more favourites - all B&W - I'll post colour favourites seperately:

Favourite colour shots - a few to choose from over 2011.

I especially like this one - a view that's shot to death but it was my first shot with the Nikon D700 and the detail blew me away - 24-70mm f2.8

Night in Dubai is good for two reasons - slightly less hot and good lighting on the architecture

D700 and 14-24mm
