Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM
This is going to be great with still subjects in low light! f/2 + great IS + 5D3's high ISO capabilities equals King :D

Congratulations, Rorschach and janern! Enjoy! :)

At a local camera store, Houston Camera Exchange, in Texas, I had been watching their stock of several new Nikkor 28mm 2.8 AI-S lenses slowly dwindle to just one. There had been some few 50mm 1.2 AI-S lenses, too, but all had been sold, already. (I had already acquired a pre-owned 50mm 1.2 AI-S in early 2011.) Even though the 60mm 2.8 AF-S Micro-Nikkor had been occupying the top spot of my wish list, I figured the opportunity to buy a new 28mm 2.8 AI-S lens might not exist indefinitely, and the ability to inspect one before buying may not exist again at all, unless I travel to New York City, so the highly-regarded classic manual-focus lens came home with me Saturday evening.

These AI-S lensess are a true delight, constructed of glass and metal. Nikon still makes a relative few, in Japan. In the USA, very, very few authorized Nikon dealers stock AI-S lenses, with B&H being the best-known source.

My strategy with my Nikon FX cameras, at least at present, is to concentrate upon fairly compact prime lenses.

Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH (H-X015E) (Gordon's sample images)

Ordered it from DigitalRev today, via Gordon's support me page of course.

At £399 (including tax and shipping) instead of Amazon UK's £549 there was no contest despite it being a grey import. I'm looking forward to using it for available light shots indoors amongst other things.

Bob.

I just bought a Nikon Micro-Nikkor AF-S 60mm 2.8G, from a local dealer. Initial impressions are very favorable!

Now, time to buy Gordon a coffee! :)

Well, I did some small shopping recently.

I saw a deal that was simply too good to let it pass, so I bought the set of secondhand lighting equipment at a bargain deal.

  • Elinchrom Style RX 1200/1200:

  • Elinchrom Pro Basic Set:

How awesome is that: I just bought Hoya Circulair Polarising 77mm Hmc Pro 1 Digital. I still haven't figured out what the difference is between the Pro and the HD, but both are comparable price range so I think they will both do the job nicely :).

The complete list of my newest acquisitions:
Hoya Circulair Polarising 77mm Hmc Pro 1 Digital
    Think Tank Pixel Pocket Rocket
    BlackRapid R-Strap RS-7 Curve
    2x SanDisk 16GB Compact Flash Extreme VPG20 120MB/s

And am really looking into buying the Canon EF 24-105/4 L IS USM in the nearby future. Next step will be a full frame body (finally) and a ball head for my tripod. This way I will never be able to afford a 500/4 L IS USM but it is all useful stuff so I don't mind that much :P.

HD I think is above the Pro1 series. Uses thinner but strengthened glass and more dirt repellent coatings.

Could be that you are right. Not too happy with my camera store then though: I asked for the best option available and I specifically asked for differences between the Pro and the HD. Ah well, the Pro has already arrived and I am quite happy with the effect it adds, so I am happy all the same.

I mentioned I was going to buy the 24-105/4 L IS USM, and I kinda already did. It is on it's way as we speak from DigitalRev, so can't wait to finally have it in my hands!

Wow, it's been an active time for me in the camera stuff shopping department. Have sold my 100-400/4.5-5.6 and my 60/2.8 Macro and bought a 300/4 L IS USM and an Extender 1.4x II. Am planning to buy a 1D Mark III and an Extender 2.0x III in the coming year too, so I will have added to my maximum reach which will be helpful for bird and wildlife photography. Also the 1D should be able to push AF faster, which is kind of great for birds in flight. Looking forward to playing with all these new toys!
