its a good focal length, I got the 30 1.4 Sigma and love it.

just bought the 17-40L, going caravaning for 6 weeks in a month time. Keen to put it to use for my landscape shots.

Lovely lens the 17-40L. Fantastic price versus quality. On your 7D it is a good lens, but on your 6D it will be even better. It will give you a really wide view, which is awesome for landscape shots.

it is nice, :D
the weight and size works well with the 6D, better than the 24-70 2.8 tamron. But then, it also doubles as a Portrait lesn on the 7D. First impression, 17 is wiiiiide , cannot wait to get out and try it. Hopefully on the weekend.

MBA, 11", i7, from a local Apple dealer at a lowered price. This is the first of two, as I plan to acquire an MBP or iMac for actually processing images, hopefully in the first half of 2014. My VAIO netbook had become too slow, and its tiny screen was a challenge for my aging eyes.

While I like using my iPad, I quickly became annoyed with Safari on the MBA, and installed the excellent Opera browser.

Totally forgot to post this addition to my gear: bought a Manfrotto 055XB Classic Tripod. I reasoned this tripod would be more than enough for my gimbal head + 7D + 100-400/4.5-5.6 L IS USM combo and that I wouldn't be needing a Gitzo Series 3 tripod until I can afford a 500/4 L IS USM, which will be years of saving.

Have taken it out in the field a couple of times now. It makes an incredible difference when looking at sharpness; hand holding a 640mm (1,6 x 400) is just pretty hard to do even with IS. I have found that I could take sharp pictures with IS on hand holding at 1/400th almost 100% of the time. Anything longer and I get hit and misses.

Even though I am not quite fond of carrying the tripod around (it really is a big thing to carry around and I am nowhere as fast shooting unexpected action compared to when I am hand holding the lens) but the increase in sharpness means a lot to me. So I will probably end up carrying my 7D + 100-400 on the gimbal + tripod over my shoulder, while having my 40D + 70-200/2.8 on a BlackRapid R-Strap RS-7 Curve over my other shoulder.

After trying out a 1D3 as a possible replacement for my dead 7D I found out that I actually don't need a second DSLR. For a second camera I'm going to go film. After trying one of my colleagues' EOS 1000N earlier this year I've really gotten excited about film and decided I'm going to go old school, so I've bought a Canon AE-1P with a 50/1.8 on eBay

Sony QX10. Forgot to check when they're available to buy previously. Well, they are now.
