Hi folks,
This morning I came across this 12MP camera from JVC which can fire a burst at 50 shots per second at 3840 x 2160 for up to 130 shots total per burst:

Except, of course, being from JVC it's actually primarily a video camera with a 1/2.3″ sensor. You can access the JVC press releases
here and
here.
The predecessor of this camera had dimensions of 131x67x122mm. Compare with the Sony NEX-7 with dimensions of 120x70x42.6mm before you add a lens.
Unfortunately the images aren't quite to scale and the NEX-7, with its APS-C sized sensor, actually has a smaller frontal area than the JVC GC-PX10 with it's fixed lens. They are two very different cameras in a lot of ways but I wonder if this convergence in body size and shape might extend one day into ergonomics. It would require a radical rethink of lens ergonomics on the stills camera side of the equation and I don't know how well that might be received. And, of course, more traditional DSLRs and video camera would still command a hefty market share.
So how about an interchangeable lens 24MP stills camera, such as the NEX-7, which could also shoot 50 shots per second at 12MP with bursts of 130 shots and which also had the ergonomics and video capabilities of a more dedicated video camera such as the JVC GC-PX10? It doesn't seem too far a stretch to believe it might be possible. Would you buy one?
Bob.
