Well it is that time, heading out to the National Training Center at Fort Erwin CA tomorrow. Really sucks but gotta do it. You all take it easy, hope I'll get some good pictures to show you.

Since I "only" need 2m subs I got a bunch of those between the clouds. Guess I'll test PixInsight's rejection algorithms shortly...

I think I never shot that many photos within 24 hours than the last 24 hours. You know how it starts to hurt if you hear the 500D's shutter 2000+ times in one day? (OK, I used two 500Ds in order to change quickly between different focal lengths.)

I'm reflecting on the most enjoyable day of sport I've ever watched.

ditto on the sport. Some of the ultra slow-motion coverage (3m diving and trampoline today) has been breathtaking

But my reason for posting was that I've just been out looking at the (nearly) full moon. The moon might look large but you could fit about 16 of them in the frame of this image I captured a few nights back (this thread) of our neighbour the Andromeda Galaxy:

    Image

Such a shame even the brightest central region is barely visible to the naked eye on even the clearest and darkest of nights. What a sight it would be if our eyes could show it in its full glory. 8)

Bob, is this one on your "to do" list?

Veil Nebula, Hubble palette, nowhere near enough data with too short a lens, too short exposures, cloud and moon getting in the way.

Nice shot of M31, Bob!

I'm going out to the Spruce Woods Star Party in mid September, and hope to get a few shots. I've been saving for the 300mm f/4, and hopefully when I sell my old Voigtlander Vito III, I'll be able to afford one.

Finally I got to try the Canon T3i, awesome camera, I really liked it for a beginner DSLR, but anyways, I think I'll go for the T4i.
