Congrats on making it out Mike!

I believe that Kyrgyzstan is famous for fruit forests and has a large mountain range running through it.

Well, after I posted the question it doesn't seem as impressive anymore, it is the only country in the world to have a friendly active US military and Russian military base inside its borders.

Looks like we are flying sooner than originally thought. We were supposed to head out on the 11th but now we are going much sooner YIPPEE!

Congratulation on making it out Mike.

I'm thinking I have a lot of Internet to catch up on after being away for the weekend with not phone signal let alone WiFi!

Congrats Mike!

PS - I'm thinking about when the snow will start falling here in Queenstown... Coronet Peak resort was supposed to open on Saturday but there's not even 1cm on the runs!!! I'm frustrated as I bought a new Custom X board and can't wait to try it out (but not untill all the rocks are covered!)

I'm a big follower of the photo of the day thread and there seem to be many of you who post very good photos everyday. How do you lot get the chance to take photos everyday. Do you just always have your camera with you? :D

Thanks for the notes! We got out of Kyrgyzstan earlier than expected and home in my wife's arms in Alaska. Let me tell you, 18-hours on a cargo plane, not fun, an interesting experience, but not fun. I'm sorry, did I say how not fun that was, wasn't sure. :D

Haha mike cargo planes are not the most interesting method of transport. Congratulations on finally getting home. Enjoy your time at home before your next tour! :D

Great video Gordon!

Just pondering one what camera gear to take to Glastonbury. When last year (building tipi's before and after the festival), really enjoyed it, so doing it again this year).

Wondering if its worth renting a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II or 14-24 f2.8 for the festival (keeping it safe at night won't be an issue)? :D

I'm thinking I like Gordon's review of the D5100 vs. 600D. :) (both parts)
Keep up the good work, this new video review format is really nice, much better than the older stuck-in-one-room format. :)

It's still cool in Alaska especially considering just coming from the desert but I'm wearing my kilt tonight! So happy to have civilian cloths again

Love the review Gordon!

I'm thinking that it's great to finally get my old rangefinder camera out, the Voigtländer Vito III. It belonged to my grandfather many many years ago, and was later passed onto my father. It's a very beautiful camera in pretty good condition, however I've noticed a hotshoe added to the top (I'm not sure how that got there...) that's covering the "Voigtländer" logo and the model (I used the lens information and some pictures that I found online to identify the camera), a slight bit of wear beneath the lens and the slower shutter speeds are a bit longer than how the camera identifies them. Otherwise, it's a wonderful camera. I'm looking forward to shooting a roll of film with it.

hikingmike, from your use of the term "civilian" to describe clothing, I am thinking I owe you a word of thanks for your time in the 'stans.

Thinking of what stuff in my room I could sell or other ways to make some more money. Need €2600 for the 50mm Lux , and my goal is still December. #icandoit #saving #leica
