the above got me thinking again but it got me thinking asbout something I have thrown around in my head several times in the past...
Cameralabs is first and foremost a place for ppl to learn and ask questions about photography and we have all come to accept that and appreciate the site for what it is... many of us learned a lot here over the years and are very appreciative for the efforts Gordon and the mods have put in to keep the site fresh and active...
I have however pondered what would happen if cameralabs were to include a new section and call it say.... "share your world" ... nothing about tips or techniques or even critisizm... just a place where photographers could share their world through their lenses with others of like mind. the way I envision it is to have ppl post in a specific way where the post will not go through unless all fields are filled in. And by fields I mean 1) country 2)state/province 3) city 4) location name ei: lake, mountain, national park.. you get the idea 5) landscape, portrait, wildlife, urban, street (whatever type of photography the pics would fall under)... the first 2 or 3 and 5 would be manditory to fill in while 3 and 4 would be desired but optional. Posts would be listed as they are now in any specific forum on the site but with the above information subgroupings based on country and province/state and style would also be included so if someone were to log in they could go to a global map in that section and click on any country or even state and they would get a listing of all posts related to that country or state they are interested in. They could then click on the style to narrow down their search even more if so desired.
To me this would add a larger social aspect to the site which formally really doesnt have a place here right now. It would allow photographers and others alike to learn about areas of interest through the eyes of other photographers. It would allow photographers of all levels to post pics in a social atmosphere without any negative feedback and strickly for social reasons. Finally it would allow other photographers to potentially learn about an area they are interested in visiting from the perspective of other photographers maybe giving them ideas on where to visit or some of the thigns worth shooting where they are planning to go. And of course it would hopefully be inspirational to many out there.
There may well be something out there like this right now but if there is I am not aware of it... I also believe it would expand the membership of cameralabs viewers and activity on the forums as it is not qabout teaching, tips, or technique but about sharing your world. For me that would be a natural extension of what exists here already.
Maybe Gordon and the mods already feel ppl can post these types of things here already and god knows that is usually the perspective I take on my wildlife posts.. that being to share my world with others here... but the different forums all state in their subtitles, in one form or another, "share your tips and techniques here" which may have some ppl thinking twice about just posting from a social perspective.
ANyways.. there I go blabbing my face off again... its just an idea I have thrown around several times over the years ... no idea how hard it would be to design something like that or if it is even possible... all I know is that the idea of having a social place for photographers from around the world to share their world with others of like mind is very intreging to me and something I would follow with great interest.
I believe cameralabs as it exists right now is an amazing site sharing much needed photography advise to ppl seeking this information... what I especially love about it is that most of this information and most of the questions answered in these forums comes from ppl like you and me.. down to earth ppl who work ofr a living and take pictures with the same gear that most of the rest of us use... not some guy who is out of touch with the reality of what the vast magority of photographer shoot with. It is and will be for the foreseeable future one, if not the, best site for the average photographer to go to if they have any questions about photography and this makes it a site I will stick with for a long time to come... adding a bigger, or more distinct, social aspect may not however be a bad idea
PS: Popo.. post a pic of a duck will ya???
