I said in the New Year resolutions thread "Shoot more, learn more, buy less". However, I AM going to buy a 5D Mark III this year. With my current saving rate I'll have it before summer.

I originally bought the 5D2 some time after the 5D3 was released, but after that I have so many times wanted my 5D2 and 7D to magically melt into a 5D3 to give me the best of both worlds. It hasn't happened yet  After really diving deep into reviews and examining RAW files during the Holidays I am simply too impressed. I have to get one!

Also, if my only big purchase this year is a 5D3 it will still be much less money spent that my pretty crazy 2012 :P

Just noticed that to install the Canon EOS utilities on my computer I need a new OS version, and for a new OS version I need both to buy it and more RAM... so no shots coming in my computer for some time unfortunately (of course I can just copy them from the SD card, but I can't read the RAW files) :(

What outdated OS do you have?! Win 2000?
Try Ubuntu otherwise, it's much faster than Windows, and Ubuntu Studio is made for photographers and art people (there's Photoshop-esque software, RAW converters etc., all for free pre-installed).

EOS should run perfectly well with Win XP, Win7, Vista...

Also a little tip, once its installed go to the Canadian web page for canon and update the software from them so you get the HDR capability.

Oh actually it's Mac OS X 1.4 "Tiger". Seems everything runs now on 10.5 "Leopard" and above. And well, I'm not entirely sure if I can run Ubuntu on a Mac :?

Thanks, but I'm not sure if it'll work. I'll be sure to give it a try

Im not sure about MAC OS but i think the way to do it is to install the disk you got with your camera then go to the website and install DPP for the canon 5D or above. The software is backwards compatible with lower spec cameras so you get the added bonus's of the higher spec camera for your model.

I have the T2i (550d) and installed the software for the 5D and it works fine.

:)

Well I just tried it but it says it does not recognize my camera and DPP won't read the RAW files :?
Thanks anyways

Interesting. Why does the $2.5 billion Curiosity use a 2-megapixel camera?

Trying to think of ways to make some extra money, fast. I'm travelling to Paris at the end of March and it'd be the perfect moment to pick up a Leica 28mm Elmarit at one of the three (!!) official Leica stores...
