Lenses have an LED on the front, but do not seem to illuminate.

What are they for?

My bet would be that they are IR-LED, which we humans cannot see.

I'd think that's not a LED at all :).

I think it's just a symbol to show where you should line up the lens and the lens mount on your camera ;).

Sony's (ok, Konica-Minolta's) A(F) mount uses orange 'LEDs' to show how a lens has to be mounted on the camera...I assume Canon uses red ones or so ?

My Minolta lenses have red dots though;)

Joris is 100% right though, you only have EF-S lenses?

Red LED's are translucent. That is no disguise ;)

You should buy/look more closely on an EF-lens;) It really doesnt look like a LED!
