Hi folks,

As some may know the penultimate Shuttle launch is due on Friday. You can see regular updates as well as links to NASA TV here.

Additionally, those kind folks over at Universe Today have flagged (here) that about 20 minutes after launch both Endeavour and its discarded external tank should be visible over southern Britain. That said, early indications are that cloud cover here won't be very kind. :(

Bob.

Thanks for the heads up Bob.
Will keep an eye out for this, but as you say, not much hope for the weather, which is typical after the clear skies of late :(

Hi Lorride,

The cloud cover seems to be on a good trend here in the Cotswolds with 50% forecast so some of us may be lucky. I'll only be eye-balling, though, as wobbly videos of two bright dots in the sky don't exactly float my boat - or should that be "launch my spaceship"?

.
Sadly today's minimum 72 hour scrub turnaround with a tentative launch at 2:33 p.m. EDT on Monday means that the UK viewing opportunity of Shuttle plus external tank is also almost certainly lost. I'm not sure what the ground track would be (and it's likely to be different as the ISS ground track will differ) but even were it the same a launch earlier in the day probably means too much daylight. Shame, but that's the name of the game.
