 Post subject: OS vs. IS?

I didn't quite know where to post this, so hoping the off-topic is oka.
I keep seeing both OS (Optical Stabilization?) and IS (Image Stabilization?), but i can really seem to figure out what the difference is between those two. Can anyone help me out here?

I believe they both mean the same thing its just that the different companies have different ways of saying it.
