ok, so i know most people on here use digital as will i once i learn how to use the new camera but iv also just bought a lomotography camera (diana+) which uses 120 film. iv never used this type of film before and the manual sais that you dont need to wind the film back onto the spool like with 35mm film. i just wandered if anyone can tell me what happens to the film and how its protected from the light because the manual sais you can open the body once the film is fully wound on to the cameras spool.

although the link below is for a Holga, it may help you with your Diana since it uses the same size film - it appears that the film is safely wound onto the spool where you can then seal the roll with a self adhesive or lickable strip:

thanks, i read that in the book that comes with the diana but it also sais leave the spool on for the next film so i just wandered if anyone had actually done it coz im a bit worried.

There are two identical spools in the back of a 120 camera. One will have the un-exposed film on it and the other will be and empty take-up roll. While you are shooting and winding you are moving the exposed film to the take-up roll on the other side. Once you've exposed all of the film it's sealed with a piece of sticky paper that will be hanging off the end of the film/paper.

Then you need to move the empty spool to the other side where it now becomes the take-up roll and so on and so on.

thanks, i bought some film to try before i put the special film i bought in. bit nerve wracking but i got it on. had to wind it loads before it got to the first photo. iv set it to take 16 shots so il probably do that today then the fun of changing films and doing it all again!
