Ive been looking a little into Leicas, and it appears that there are quite a few M3's around for a decent price, if you don't mind metering yourself obviously. That's part of the fun of a camera like that though isn't it?

Don't really like the styling of the M3, only like it from the M6 onwards. I just came across an M8 for €660,- (yes, three figures), but that's most probably a scam... :(

That would seem quite cheap, although I was only looking into the film editions so wouldn't know for sure

It certainly does, pmateiro. Welcome to the club!

@agun: I don't know too much about that camera, sorry. Is it kick-ass?

ps. my old uncle told me recently "i think i have a nikkor 85mm, you want it?"
"omg yesh!! is it 1.8 or 1.4?"
"hmm it's been more than a decades since i touched it, maybe 1.8 i guess, let me find it and bring it for you"

yay! he was the same uncle that gave me my 35mm f1.4 and 58mm f1.2 ... and now 85mm... i hope it is the nikkor 85mm f1.4 :P that would complete me!

Daniel you lucky guy! First you meet a hot girl who basically strips for your camera, then you get free glass?

+1 to that comment! You are pretty lucky...

... But I am lucky too! My roommate received my 1DmkII yesterday evening and I am sitting with it as I write! First hand impression: NAJS! This thing is something else. I have never held a camera from the 1D class or the like. This is huge and heavy but ergonomics are very nice. I have quite large hands, so even my 40D sometimes feel a bit small, but this thing is just perfect! I ordered an 8GB CF card last week (the wikipedia page on the 1DmkII listed 8GB as maximum) but it has not been shipped yet. To my surprise, a 4GB CF card AND a 2GB SD card was already in the memory slots! Thanks a lot man-who-sold-it-to-me! And just for the record, the 1DmkII takes 16GB CF cards as well. No limit on the size. Just tested it with my card in the 40D.

This is all the testing I have time for today as I have an exam tomorrow morning. I will be back, however with a more thorough test and a comparison to my 40D.

Hahahaha, thanks! And yes I did - WOW! I have been used to 6.5FPS on my 40D but the actual 8.5FPS I have been getting (I tested this by shooting a stopwatch on my mobile phone (I know I said I wouldn't test more, but I couldn't help it (I know that a parenthesis inside a parenthesis is weird and I will stop now))) is just extreme! I am quite amazed by the performance to say the least.

It's a nice feeling, isn't it? ;)
Now go out and shoot, and tell me your "oldie" also replaced your newer camera

Heck yeah it is!

I just need to finish this exam and then I will have time to do all the tomfoolery I need to do in order to test and play. But I must say, already, that the 1D is almost surely going to replace my 40D. So much more quality!

Quality not as in imagequality, right?
Since I heard the noise levels of the D2H and the 1Dmark3 (!) are pretty similar. I'd keep the 40D for low light :)

Hahahaha, indeed it is the build quality I am referring to. I will wait with the comments on image quality until I've had time to look through the shots on my PC properly.
