Hmmmm... Goals... I think you summed it up pretty much right there, Marijn. The total world domination should be nothing more than a walk in the park with our epic beasts, though, so before we go do that, we should have some fun - like who can get into off limit places just by flashing their kick-ass-oldie-but-goodie-camera. I will actually attempt such a feat myself when I get my 1D. Should be sent today but haven't heard from the guy yet. Fingers crossed.

I'd be interested to see you guys take a similar photo with an old and a new camera. Set up a tripod, mount the new cam, remember the setting used, mount the old cam, use the same settings, and share the results. Should give a good idea of how these high-end bodies from days gone by perform against their modern relatives!

Ooh, I'm in? Where's the beer? :D

On Bjorn's idea, I was planning to do that some time since I like a side by side comparison of what I have. Like in the past I did an ISO comparison between 50D and a borrowed 5D1. This time it'll be 5D1 vs 7D, but I'll have to pick a better subject.

*Hands over beer* here you go, popo, nice and cool directly from the fridge.

Excellent idea Bjorn. I will do that when I get my KAOBGC!

An excellent idea indeed!

As for social engineering with our cameras...that sounds like a great idea! It's basically a credibility prop, especially when bundled with a large lens. Add some business cards and you're topped off, ready to rumble (or take pictures).

I'd almost go out looking for a Minolta Maxxum 9 just for the sake of joining this group... :)

I'll be reading along!

Welcome to the club Adi!

If you find a good bargain, Bjorn, you should definitely go for it! It rocks to be a member, IMHO.

lol, i like when a i'm shooting for some games, and some guy next to me with 15x zoom camera, that equals 55-200mm i think? and he asked me what is the zoom on my big a$$ black lens.
"is that like 400 or 500mm or something??"
"no sir, it's 70-200mm zoom"
"oh what? mine is 55-200mm too, and yours must be like 10 times more expensive"
I smile and get back to shooting.
HAHA

but he didn't ask my camera megapixel though hehehe, i think that would be funny too. "yeah i have a 4megapixel camera" HAHA

Haha yeah. 15x zoom is generally 420 mm (full frame equiv). I also get that, I think I discussed the whole issue with Bjorn, who said their compacts had more zoom than him with his 70-200 :)

I have my grandpa's old Kodak Colorsnap 35 model 1 from 1959.

I might take some pictures with it this summer.

If they are goodie, can I join? :o

It's like: "I've got 20x zoom, that lens of yours must have even more! It's soooo big!"
And I'd say: "Nah, this lens has 2.9x zoom."

Those are the same people who don't understand why you need more than one lens. "You have that big white one, why are you buying another?"

Anyway, I've been looking for a Maxxmum 9, the only "recent" pro-spec body from Minolta, but there aren't any available (not buying from eBay). So then, I started looking at some Leica M6's and M7's, which are, of couse, quite costly. I'd rather buy another lens, but still, if I come across a used Leica M7 for an acceptable price, I might take it...

To Bjorn,

Ive been looking a little into Leicas, and it appears that there are quite a few M3's around for a decent price, if you don't mind metering yourself obviously. That's part of the fun of a camera like that though isn't it?
