What are your goals? I'm curious as to how many people here share the same goals as me. I'll chime in as people answer the thread.

I don't really have any goals other than improvement.

My technique and sense of style that I want to bring out in my images. Make "better" images. Something that grabs attention.

I've got a long way to go...

I would like to have the ability to have "absolute power"..(control) of my camera. Being able to recognise the light, the shadows, the speed of the shutter, and get the ap. right on, as second nature so that it is not a thought but a response to the light presenting itself....that is what I would like..to instantly "know" the right settings. I like to shoot manual, no flash, and I am getting the hang of it, but still not instantly. I just downloaded a trial version of C$4.. the creative suite, got it thru school, and am amazed at what fun things you can do..still checking it out, I have had it for 3 days. 27 to go! I would love to become proficient in photoshop...the stuff you guys do always amazes me. Hope to get it right this time!

love,
patti

Big goals or little goals? Short term or long term?

I have to state that to me photography in itself does not require everything to be an artistic masterpiece. I shoot often as a record.

Also it's easy to say to want to get better at everything. Being more specific, the following are on my short term "to do" list:
* get better at MF speed and accuracy, initially for stationary subjects then later for moving ones too. Needed for those times where AF + DoF = :(
* get better at landscape composition - mainly by practice
* get better at moving subject tracking - mainly by practice
* get into fashion photography, outdoors not studio - model agreed in principle, need to find a location!

Oh, I thought of something. I want to find someone who's also a photographer...I don't know anyone in RL that also does photography. :(

Make more friends Shagrath :D
It's great to go on a photography trip with other photographers, or work on a project together.

Short term goals:
- learn more about using light in the perfect way
- go out shooting photos way more often
- start shooting with primes
- learn how to use small apertures (I usually work wide open only)

Long term goals:
- start my own company
- employ other photographers
- employ press photographers
- an exposition would be nice

And probably a lot more goals will come up as I try to realize the above...

My goal mainly is to catch as many photos as I can. If some of them are rubbish sobeit, but hopefully as time goes on I'll find myself rejecting less photos that I've taken.

I always find it hard to critique my own work, one day I think the shot is fantastic, then the next day I look at it and think its absolute rubbish.

Photography is never going to be a career for me, its just a passion. I want to be able to control the camera in a way that suits me, and to get the shot I want.

It's also to help me expand on photoshop skills. I've been using Photoshop for 7 years now but only to make graphics from scratch, never to touch up photos in detail etc. So whilst I know how to use curves, levels etc - it's knowing how to apply them to create something aesthetic with the picture in hand.

I feel like I'm making improvement, which at the end of the day is my ultimate goal.

I want some good predator/prey sequences.
One that people will look at and their jaw drop open..myself included.
That will be almost impossible because like Phildiggle I am my own worst critic.
I guess that is my ultimate goal...

Be able to look at a pic I took and say...Nailed it...no shoulda/coulda done this or that
