I am now the prowd owner of a DLSR camera!!! (I actually own one!!!)

Heading off to Jessops today to get the grip, and learn how to clean the inside (or possible just get them to do it if it is cheap enough), and get another lens!

So expect a crap load more pictutres now

Yeah I did!!!

I went to Jessops today, got some advice on stuff.

Bought a Lowepro backpack (200 I think), a bog standard Jessops tripod (£25 so its not a big deal), and a Canon Grip for EOS 350D/400D!

I got some advice on lenses, and I am probably gonna end up buying the Canon 50mm F/1.8 at £90 and the Canon 28-105mm F/4.5-5.6 at £189 sometime during the week.

They had a pretty good sigma lens for £289 but I'd rather have the 50mm ports and the other zoom lens for more general purpose stuff rather than the 18-55mm kit lens.

Not totally set on those lenses yet, but I'll make a post in the Canon section, and if anyone can convince me of other lenses in the next 16 hours then good stuff, if not then i'll probably have already bought them


As for the Grip, tis great, took me a second to figure out that there was a seperate part for the lithium-ion batteries lol! Pulled out the AA insert and forgot that I had taken out the lithium one that was in bubble wrap and put it to the side, then spent a while wondering where the 2 Canon batteries went >_< Keeps the hand a lot more steady when taking portrait shots. (Plus the fact it makes the camera's physical size bigger, making it look more important to the ordinary person lol!

The Tripod is pretty twig like, and not the sturdiest thing I've come across, but really it will do just now, besides the lenses are more imporant then the tripod at this moment in time, I only got one for long exposure shots / long shots since my lenses don't have IS.

The Lowepro is amazing! Nice bag, not to big, and pretty light plus it has a waterproof cover you can put over if it starts to rain. I'll probably take my camera to school in this since I can just carry it with my hand till I get into school, then lob my school bag ontop of the lockers then take my camera bag to photography, then come back and put it in the office so it doesn't get stolen.


Anyway, seems like plain sailing so far, gonna buy 2 lenses and another 2 batteries (Jessops ones though, Canon rip you on batteries) and UV filters to go with them.

Tis the season to take pictures trala la la la, click snap snap!

When it comes to lenses though, don't rush. Use what you've got and see if you need something wider, longer, brighter etc. You won't truly know what you need next until you've used what you've got for a bit...

I'd like to echo Gordon's sentiment about not rushing into lens purchases until you have a really clear idea of what you want. Also, shop around. I got my 50mm f/1.8 from Foto Koester in Germany (but ordered via Amazon UK) for under £60 inclusive. You should be able to get the 28-105 for a bit less than £189 as well if you do your research.

Yeah, my mum was like "buy it this weekend, we can get £25 off!" then thought I was mad when I said I didn't want all 3 lenses lol - Then she said she was going to get a 400D ... I was rather upset by that statement lol! (She won't buy one now, I just said wait for the 450D in Feb, (my birthday) buy that for me, then I'd give her the 350D ^^

She wants me to look again at the Jessops site (She wants to buy them from there becuase we have 3 stores close to us (within 15 miles) and its easy to send damaged stuff back (getting them insured for accidental damage & stuff) so I think I'm buying it all from there.

I'll report back with my new lens findings tomorrow, I think my budget has been put up to £550 for lenses now...so if that effects anyone recomendations...

Ahh, didn't know that! Thanks Gordon! Not sure if she is ordering them online to collect in store, or if she is actually just going to phone the store to buy them. (She likes to talk to a real person when buying stuff)
