It seems Canon, in a recently spotted patent have come up with a new lens design.

The propeller presumably gets you closer to the action for those really close up shots at air shows when a long telephoto is just too cumbersome. :P

My guess would be that there's a shaft running through the camera and the propeller is to keep the photographer cool during those very hot days out shooting.

But I like Gordon's idea... :D

no no don't be silly thats just the flux capacitor! (lool)

Safe bet is that its a wind turbine inside the camera to keep that batery going with all these big screens now having live view and all 8)

Perhaps it's a gyroscopic image stabilizer.

Or, a sensor cooler?
