I've been trying to learn Photoshop and have realised a graphics tablet might be easier/more natural to use for this than a mouse. After reading some reviews I reckon an A5 tablet is probably the best size for my needs and that Wacom seems to be the preferred choice for most users.

I was about to buy one of the cheaper Wacom Bamboo tablets to try this out but then came across some widescreen tablets. I wondered if anyone could comment on their opinion on widescreen rather than standard aspect tablets? I have a widescreen monitor and wondered if the standard aspect tablet mapped to this properly - i.e. if I move the pen horizontally would the movement be more exaggerated than if I moved it vertically - I imagine this would make drawing less rather than more intutive! What I really mean is - if I have a widescreen monitor must I have a widescreen tablet and if not what are the disadvantages of not matching them?

Wacom only appears to have A5 widescreen tablets in its high-end Intuos range which cost around £300. I was looking for something cheaper in case I didn't like it - the only other model I could find was a Trust TB-7300 for around £80 but I cant find any reviews of it anywhere.

Not sure about the Wacom ones, but I am waiting on delivery of a new Aiptek 14000u A4 one, I will do a review when it arrives and I have got used to it (it should be here first thing tomorrow morning).

I currently have a Wacom Bamboo.

I'm just a hobbyist at graphics design and what not, so I figured I'd start out with something relatively cheap.

I love it. It's a great tablet for my needs, and I use it when editing photos a lot. Brushing the skin, lips, eyes, or the landscape, it's quite convenient.

I do however wish that it was a bit larger, and had a 'screen' on the tablet so I can see what I'm doing without having to look at the monitor. But you learn to get used to the smaller tablet area.

Overall, I'm happy with it.
