Hi folks,

I'm planning a "Haswell" build and trying to decide what RAM to go for. In the process I came across this chart:

The whole review is a must read to put those figures in perspective and contains many more benchmarks, some of which do reveal more significant differences. But for the sort of real world applications I'll be using I think the 2133C9 Dominator offering is the sweet spot. It runs that 2133Mhz at 1.65V and even features subtle downlighting.

Unless you can persuade me there's a better choice... :?

Bob.

Comparing the slowest to fastest non-overclocked results, that's about 6% difference. Something mid range may well be the sweet spot. I've gone off cutting edge ram since I've found in general, the closer you are to bleeding edge, the more likely an unexpected compatibility issue will crop up and ruin your day. Mainstream consumer grade stuff just seems less fuss, that I'd no longer worry about attaining the last % difference.

Hi popo,

Thanks for that. I was contemplating going even slower and opting for the 1866C9 offering but I think the 2133C9 gives me better options. The HAF XB Windowed case arrived today so I was able to check clearances for other components. Still no major orders in yet but I have just ordered a full set of be quiet! Silentwings 2 case fans. Hope your own NAS build is going well.

Bob.
