I use picasa and get on with it more than fine. For more advanced editing there is GIMP but it's not fantastically user friendly

Try Zoner, I use it as an organizer and previewer cause it's fast, supports most raw formats and is free.

It has an editor as well, decent for simple tasks.

There are a lot programs available for free to edit your photos. GIMP is very nice for processing your photos and it has many functions but you'll need a while till you know how to use it effectively. NeatImage is also available for free and it does a very good job in noise reduction (note: free version is limited to jpg). Another nice program is photoscape which is very easy to use but you are very limited in what you can do. I use it mainly for the bloom effect if I'm too lazy to create a similar effect with gimp.

Picasa or gimp will do, same as software canon gives with their cameras.

for basic editing irfan view is also a good program, which i use daily. (cropping, color corrections...)

I am now trying that zoner software, if that non-destructive editing - meaning it will not touch images, like picasa?
