Thanks Gordon I will remember to use the support us page!

I have decided to get the imac without the SSD and take it to an apple authorised retailer who can fit an better SSD for me as the apple one isn't that good. At the moment I am looking at the OCZ Vertex 3 SATA 3 120gb SSD. Looks like it is the fastest available. Can anyone suggest a better drive?

Before you get the Vertex 3, have a look on their support forums. In another thread here I had quite some trouble with mine in the early days but they have been updating the firmware to quash that since. I don't believe Macs were immune to problems with them either, but since I don't have one I didn't pay attention to what the issues were other than there were more than none.

Apart from popular OCZ brand, the OWC ones seem to have pretty good reviews.

I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with that James as I didn't know an authorised Apple dealer could do that upgrade for you... could be really good as you can get a better price on an SSD elsewhere.

As for models, I use an older OCZ Vertex 2 in my PC and it's been great for the 8 months I've been running it.

Thanks for the comments!

@popo thanks for pointing that out I didn't realise there were some problems with the Vertex 3.

@Antony thanks for the suggestions I will take a look at the OWC ones.

@Gordon I emailed my local Authorised Apple dealer and they said it shouldn't be a problem. They didn't give me a exact price for the installation, much to my disappointment, but it shouldn't be too expensive. I will keep you posted when I do it.

@stephen I have thought about a hackintosh but decided I don't really have the time to build a computer and it wouldn't be the same as the beautiful iMacs :D

The Crucial M4 SSD has had a recent firmware update and is just about as fast as the vertex, and priced better.
