OK.. I have been looking for something like this for 2 years now with no luck... I was hoping that the ipad might fit what I am looking for but I dont think so due to lack of resolution and memory.

What I am looking for is something with a 7 to 9 inch HD screen so I can screen the pics I took that day and also use it as a portable photo library... at least 300 to 500gb memory... good battery life.. and portable... by portable I mean being able to take on multi day hikes or long nature tours in all sorts of conditions... and of course all the proper connectivity to make dropping pics onto it directly from the camera and/or memory card. I'm not worried about running editing programs on it or anything like that.. just looking for a high tech picture frame I guess that is portable and somewhat rugged.

Anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this? If not anyone heard of anything coming close to this?

Any help would be appreciated

I don't know of any device with a HD screen that small, you just can't fit enough pixels on something that small with current tech. Other than the screen a netbook would fit your other criteria.

EDIT: How about this one, has an 11" screen with 1366*768.

Ah, just noticed the use in all conditions. That takes you into the ultra tough laptops which don't come with HD screens. Also bleeding expensive!

I'd go with a 10.1in laptop over the iPad for sure. You'll be able to do much more with it, and there are some pretty good ones for not too much money, or some amazing ones for a lot (depending on budget of course!)

EDIT: Take a look at the iPad thread to see my (and others) thoughts on why the iPad won't be good for photographers.

A netbook with maybe an external HDD would be a good idea.

thanks guys.. I was thinking either the HP Mini 311-1033CA or the Sony VAIO® P Series with windows 7.

I like the hp cause of the 250gb hard drive compared to the 80 on the sony... I do like the smaller size of the sony though... niether of these 2 are in stock in town so the only thing I am worried about is screen quality...

big $ difference up here as well.. 500 for the hp and 1000 for the sony.

Anyone have any hands on with these 2 and know which has the better display or any other thoughts on either or both of these?
