Aside from the main editing hardware and software put some budget towards storage and backup devices. If you are generating video content (especially in HD) it is likely you could end up with TB's of information in a short space of time.
Maybe have a look at something like Data Robotics DROBO products good for 16TB of RAID, very flexible for upgrading over time and the option of three interfaces, firewire, USB and iSCSI.
