Computer question sorry guys!

I met with my future principle for an hour today with one of my close friends. We discussed the up-coming school year and he really wants a news network for my school (called ITC TV) and He said what can I get you guys to edit multimedia? He basically (not really but sorta) gave us a blank check for 2-3 computers to work on editing and stuff.

I'm thinking like a good top of the line imac or mac pro, with CS4, Lightroom, and Final Cut pro or similar. (x2 maybe)

as well as a tricked out PC with vista/win7 Windows Movie Maker (which I LOVE for quick edits it's perfect for our news highlight clips) and I also like pc's a lot better for text work which would be us typing up memos and such.

Specs on each of these? and lets try to keep them around 1500 each?

Also software whats good for videos and also like design whats this adobe indesign stuff?

Hmm.. I'm not sure Windows Movie Maker will set you in good stead to become video editors. It's kind of limited.

You'd do as well getting a couple of 24" iMacs, with plenty of ram and Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro and Adobe CS4. Final Cut Express is brilliant for video editing. It does a lot of what Final Cut Pro does, certainly more than enough unless you're producing semi-Hollywood Blockbusters!

InDesign is a desktop publishing application.

I will admit Final Cut would work better. Maybe a 24" imac and a 15" mbp for portability. CS4 and lightroom for sure. Maybe a 5d MkII

For video editing, if you're going the PC route, you might want to take a look at Adobe Premiere Pro. If you're going the Mac route... well, the aforementioned Final Cut Pro will work wonders.

Aside from the main editing hardware and software put some budget towards storage and backup devices. If you are generating video content (especially in HD) it is likely you could end up with TB's of information in a short space of time.

Maybe have a look at something like Data Robotics DROBO products good for 16TB of RAID, very flexible for upgrading over time and the option of three interfaces, firewire, USB and iSCSI. http://www.drobo.com/
