Again, if this is anything like the Vista betas, you will need a key to install/activate which MS will give you if you go with them.

They said it'll be out in the afternoon, but they didn't say what time.

The windows page doesn't give any time. Got any reference otherwise? Similarly they didn't say it's US only.

it first came available on the UK site, so i dont think it is USA only.

From what i can piece together, the Microsoft download severs crashed!!!

i've given up, its just not worth the effort. ive been looking for well over an hour now, and have got no where. I'll download it off a torrent in a couple of days when the traffic has reduced. (at least i can say that i TRIED to get it legally)

Ok, maybe not here is a link to what is happening: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/default.aspx
If the link is taking to long, here is what is said:

Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta. We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the beta, and I’ll be posting here again soon once the beta goes live. Stay tuned! We are excited that you are excited!

That was posted on Friday Jan 09 @ 02:53

I've got a feeling that there A LOT more than 2.5 million people that are going to try and get their hands on this. I hope you're lucky

I wish you all the best, but i personally shall call it a day...

Windows 7 main page updated:

Quote:
Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal—we're in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We're sorry for the delay and we'll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.

The reference to this afternoon being the available time has been removed and no new indication is there.

Ed, keep us updated on how the download's coming along and after you install it... Just make sure you have all your photos backed up on an external drive far away from that computer, because I'm sure there's going to be some bugs and you wouldn't want to lose any of your data... :o

I was going to download it, but I figured it would be too much and my computer probably wouldn't be able to store 2 operating systems at once. Oh, the pain of having a 2002 computer that came with a 70GB hard drive...

I downloaded the x86 version and am trying to install the Ultimate version on VMWare Fusion 2.0 but I'm not sure how far it will let me go without a serial key. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

IT WORKS!!

Haven't spent that much time with it but it's done everything perfectly in virtualisation so I might not even install it on Bootcamp as originally planned.

First impressions:

I prefer the look of Vista. The new taskbar is very thick (I'm used to do the Leopard one) and works as promised but isn't as quick as I would have thought. Managing hundreds of Windows but will be quicker for sure but for just a few, it's not so great.

The new explorer is quite nice but nothing special. My windows don't seem to have transparency but my taskbar does. :?
