Ive just put in my 4GB of ram, and there were 4 slots, two of them blue and two black, and the order went
blue
black
blue
black

the 1GB i had in before was in 2x512 and both in the blue slots, so ive put one pair of the 2GB in the blue and the other pari in the black, is this right?


also, is it worth me upgrading to 64bit version of windows?

Each pair of same size/type/capacity should be put in the same coloured slots. Keeping to this allows it to run in dual channel mode for a slight performance increase. So if you have two sticks, put them in the same coloured slots.

On 64 bit, it'll give you access to the full capacity of the ram other than the 3-ish GB you probably have now as well as some potential processing bonus power. Particularly for older systems driver availability might be an issue though. Might be better to move to 64 if you later do a major upgrade.

tbh, you'll get 3.5gb, the extra 512mb dont worry about it.

32bit XP is more stable, 64bit XP wasnt a hit.

Vista 64bit and windows 7 (unified 32-64bit apps?) are a better bet.

as said by popo, drivers are always a pain in the bum.
