since my computer requires a password, does that mean i cant use f8 to put the computer to safe mode? it doesnt work.

Having a password doesn't disable any feature and your motherboard has a different function key for safe mode. Try F5 or F10.

F8 is a Windows function, not a chipset BIOS function.

Windows 8 and UEFI boards boot quickly past the F8 point, so you need to start maching the F8 as soon as you press the power button.
