hi guys!

i've come here to ask a few opinions on my dilemma. im not a pro or anything. im just getting started in the photography business. my friend asked/hired me to take formal portraits during her grad ball. the shoot went well. and the prints of the photos are on the way. now the problem is that my friend is asking me if they could have the soft copies of the pictures so that they can use it for their yearbook. should i charge them since the photos that they are asking were not intended for use in their yearbook. thanks in advance guys!

You say he "hired" you, meaning you were paid to take the portraits. If that is the case then adding on an additional fee for additional requirements shouldn't be too much of a problem. Just make sure you provide an update usage license that clearly states that the digital files may only be used for the printing of the year book.

Obviously if it was originally done for free/as a favour, you now have a case of friend creep; where a seemingly simple favour become more complex as time goes on to the point where it is no longer reasonable for them to expect it to be a favour/free but hard to bring up the topic of payment.

i just talked to my friend a while ago about the pictures.and they are willing to pay for the soft copies of their portraits. thats good,but now, how much to ask them?
