what should a photographer always include in their portfolio for any potential client?

and what kind of folder should one use or should a folder even be used at all?

just wondering.

any more info regarding creating a portfolio would be very much appreciated.

I think it should depends on what your client is looking for.

For example if your client is hotel, then you should give them architecture/interior design photos.

It depends on your target market. And nowadays an online portfolio works just as well as a printed one (if not better) as you can have it available to many people at the same time, rather than leaving one set of prints with a potential client to evaluate.

Having said that, there's something satisfying about a printed portfolio. If you do go for one, keep it simple, select a varying set of images that have some sort of flow from image to the next, and you should be on a good thing. A portfolio with similar images doesn't have quite the same impact.
