i decided it's time to get a tripod, but i don't have big pockets... but i also did'nt want to go too cheap. i must say i'm glad with my decision to go with the Continent A1... it's sturdy enough.
here's a photo of the A1
A1 specs:
Max operating height: 1650mm
Min operating height: 630mm
Folded height: 680mm
Max tube diameter: 28.8mm x 22.2mm
Net weight: 1740g
Max operating load: 4000g
Constructed from aluminium alloy and high quality plastics
... and here's a test shot (unprocessed) using the A1

EXIF data:
Camera: Nikon D80
Lens: Nikkor 35mm f/2.0
Aperture: f/8.0
Shutter: 30 sec
ISO: 100
(the moon looks blurred becuase there was quite a bit of cloud movement)
i looked at the A2, but the head was smaller, and the legs were skinnier... so alll in all, i'm happy for now.
if anyone has questions about this tripod, just ask and i'll try to answer them.
EDIT: i forgot to mention the price... here in St Petersburg i payed 1,200.00 Rubles which roughly comes to 26.00 GBP (cameras and camera equipment cost very much the same here as in the UK)
